Hello crafters! From this article, I am going to show you how
to make this gorgeous popup interactive card. This is a very easy step by step
guide that anyone can follow. To make the learning process easier, I have categorized
the content of this blog post as follows. Also, I have uploaded a tutorial
video on my YouTube channel. You can check it right here.

- How to draw the mechanism? You can skip this part if you already know how to draw it or you can download the free template provided below.
- How to assemble?
- Few important things to remember
Materials
Before we start, you need to know
what you will need to make this card. I am happy to say that you will not need
any expensive materials and you can find all of these in your house even if you
are not a crafter. Quickly grab the below materials.
1. Few pieces of card
2. A pair of scissors
3. A ruler
4. Glue
5. A compass
6. A pencil
How to draw the mechanism?
As I told you before you can skip
this part if you want to. Here is the free template. Download
First, draw a 7 cm long line. Then
draw another 7 cm line parallel to the first line. The gap should be 1.8cm.
This is the lever. Then leave 0.9cm from the left corner and fold it in. This is
the flap that we will be attaching to the card base. Now let’s mark the centre
of our circle on the right side, leave out 0.9cm from the centre of the lever and
make a mark (centre of the circle). Use the compass to draw a circle (1.2cm
radius). Now draw two horizontal lines tangent to the top of the circle and
bottom of the circle. Then draw 2 lines from A to B and C to D. We will Fold
them later (B and D are the points where 2 lines meet). Draw a line to join B
and D. We are almost done. Draw a vertical line across the centre of the
circle. Mark 22.5 degrees angles and draw lines. Now The most complex parts are
over.
How to assemble?
To begin, fold through all the dotted
lines highlighted in Orange colour (lever part). To show the assembling process
better, I am using a lot of pictures.
First, glue the flap at the centre
of the card base. Make sure the end of the flap is touching the crease of the
card base.
It is very important that the flap touches the crease. |
Then glue the triangle part on the
card. It should look like what I am showing in the pictures below.
I glued on a patterned paper to cover the white card. |
Now you can glue the largest
circle. To give some space to move we need to put glue on a tiny part.
Otherwise, circles won’t move at all.
We are almost done. Now all you
have to do is glue the base on another card (only if the card is not strong enough.).
Few important things to remember
- Using a thin paper will not work because they tend to bend when you open and close the
card. Also, small parts will tear. So always make sure to get thick cards.
- Use strong adhesive.
I hope this article was useful to you. Thank you for your valuable time. Have a nice day.
Great work 😊 wish you all the best ❤
